The more I think about it, the more it makes sense.

South African Government is launching a new legislation that requires all prepaid SIM card owners to register with their relevant service provider. Sure the process of going in person and registering one’s number is a bit silly … but think of the possibilities/bonuses! I thought of 3:

• Fewer prank callers: We’d be able to track those suckers!
• Less number changing (I’m sure we all have those friends who have as many numbers as they do minutes in the day…)
• Lower personal interest in participating in organized crime: … using a cellphone

Personally I think that the British system of registering/activating one’s SIM is much easier – you phone in, give in your details + necessary passwords and voila!
